A Grandmother's Light

I have seen the changes in this family like a slow sunrise, turning darkness into light. When I look at Om and his siblings, I don't just see children; I see the future that we dreamed about but never had. In the beginning, we had no one to turn to. No one to help, no one to speak to, just hard days and harder nights. But the boys kept going. The school and the teachers at Akanksha, they became their second family.

His success is not his alone. It belongs to all who believed when no one else did. I am proud, you see. I am so proud of how Om never gave up, and I am proud of the woman his mother became, standing tall despite everything. This family has been through storms, but we learned to stand strong together. We had so little, and yet we gave everything we had to these children. We played with them, we prayed for them, we hoped for them, and slowly, we saw doors begin to open.

"My son gave me a grandson, and that boy brought light to all of us."

Home is everything to us. No matter where you go in the world, the heart stays here. Now, when Om comes home and walks in his English-speaking way, or when he talks about his college in America, sometimes I feel the tears coming. They are tears for the long, hard journey we have been on. They are tears for the dreams we are finally seeing realized. They speak words I never knew, and they walk on paths I never even dreamed of. That is the beauty of change.

Our neighborhood watches them. Sometimes they question it, sometimes they admire it. But we know the truth. We know these children are the living proof that with education and support, real change is possible. When you see our kids succeed, you see what love and opportunity can build. My only hope now is that the generations to come will walk these paths even more boldly than Om has. That the families in our neighborhood will have fewer struggles and many more joys. We did what we had to do so the next ones don't have to suffer as we did.
